BOSTON — A fundraiser at a hockey game raised over $60,000 for the daughter of a fallen firefighter.
NECN reported that firefighters from across Massachusetts volunteered at a Boston Bruins game to sell tickets for the 50/50 raffle.
The fundraiser collected $112,845, half of which will go to a fund created for Ava Roy, the daughter of firefighter Christopher Roy.
Roy was killed while battling a house fire in Worcester on Dec. 9.
According to Roy’s mother, the firefighter “lived for his daughter.”
“He referred to her as his little munchkin and made sure she had the best of everything,” she said. “She’s incredibly brave and you know where she got that from – her father.”
City officials said that before the raffle, the Ava Roy Fund had already collected around $50,000.
