ADRIAN, Mich. — A firefighter died Tuesday after battling a field fire.
U.S. Fire Administration reported that Allen Howard, 49, was part of a crew that responded to a mutual aid call at a field with large bales of hay. Adrian Charter Township Fire Department reported conditions of very high heat and humidity, and the fire took several hours to extinguish.
The next morning, Howard became ill and died. A cause of death has yet to be reported.
Howard was 20-year veteran firefighter and was with Adrian Charter Township Fire Department since 2001. He is survived by his wife and four children.
