SPRING LAKE, Mich. — A body has been recovered from a boat that caught fire and sank Sunday morning.

WOODtv.com reported that the identity of the person has not yet been confirmed, but the whereabouts of the boat’s owner, Grand Rapids (Mich.) firefighter Dave Knisley, is still unknown. Authorities said it will “take some time” to make an ID.

Knisley was last seen on his boat Saturday night. Friends and family said it is not unusual for Knisley to spend the night on his boat.

The fire broke out in Spring Lake and neighbors reported hearing what sounded like an explosion.

“The boat was fully involved. At that point, we had to stretch approximately 400 feet of hose lines down to try to combat this fire,” Spring Lake Township Fire Chief Brian Sipe said.

Crews used air bags to float the boat about 3 inches out of the water, at which point they discovered the body.
