MACON, Ga. — A firefighter died and five others were injured in a house fire Wednesday night.
WMAZ reported that Lt. Randy Parker, a 20-year veteran with the Macon-Bibb (Ga.) Fire Department, died when a floor collapsed inside the home. He suffered fatal burns and smoke inhalation.
Officials said three firefighters were transported to a local burn unit and two others were being treated at a hospital. Firefighter Steven Stafford was airlifted and is in critical condition.
The other injured firefighters are Farrell Cromer, 46, Adam Mitchie, 34, Matt Couey, 27, and Benn Bollinger, 28. They were listed in stable condition and will remain at the hospital for monitoring, according to the report.
Their injuries range from smoke inhalation to burns.
The residents inside the house escaped safely and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
