Mo. firefighter killed, another seriously hurt in crash

The firefighters were struck and caught under a vehicle as it traveled down an embankment

MAYVIEW, Mo. — A firefighter was killed and another was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash Monday night.

FOX4KC.com reported that the firefighter, identified as Jeffery Sanders, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second firefighter, Jacob Hayward, 33, was taken by air ambulance to a hospital with serious injuries.

According to the crash report, the driver of a Ford struck another vehicle that was stopped in the roadway from behind, which then struck a third vehicle that was also stopped. The firefighters were struck and caught under the third vehicle as it traveled down an embankment.

KMMO.com reported that the firefighters were responding to a call in a fire vehicle when the crash occurred. We will update you once more information becomes available.
