PERTH AMBOY, N.J. — A fire chief died Saturday at his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials.

NJ.com reported that Perth Amboy Fire Department Chief Abraham Pitre, 44, had been with the department for 23 years.

The prosecutor’s office spokeswoman, Andrea Boulton, said the “circumstances surrounding the death of Chief Pitre is not considered suspicious.”

“We ask that you keep Abraham Pitre’s loved ones and co-workers in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn this devastating loss,” Mayor Wilda Diaz said.
