SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — An off-duty Shelby County firefighter was killed in an early morning crash Sunday, officials said.
Ryan McCray, 26, died after he was ejected from his car around 6:30 a.m. near Walnut Grove and Houston Levee, officials from the sheriff’s office and county fire department confirmed.
The car left the road, officials said, then hit a tree and rolled. McCray was taken from the scene in extremely critical condition, but did not survive.
“It’s a real sad day here,” Shelby County Fire Department spokesman Brent Perkins said.
