PATERSON, N.J. — One firefighter was injured in a two-alarm blaze that caused the partial collapse of a ceiling in a River Street commercial-residential building Wednesday night, a fire official said.
Four tenants were displaced.
The fire, at 293 River St., was reported shortly after 6 p.m., said Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Hirz of the Paterson Fire Department.
A business, Riverside Auto Radiator Service, is located on the ground floor of the building, with apartments on the second floor.
Firefighter Jimmy Lucci was treated at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation, Hirz said. Another firefighter, Kevin Lewis, was knocked down by a portion of the falling ceiling but did not require medical attention, Hirz said.
The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes and was contained to the second floor, Hirz said.
The fire was still under investigation late Wednesday, but it may have started in a stove in a second-floor apartment, Hirz said.
