ARTESIA, Calif. — Two Los Angeles County firefighters suffered minor burns today while battling a pre-dawn blaze that destroyed two classrooms and a bungalow at an Artesia elementary school, authorities said.
The blaze at Elliot Elementary School at 18415 Cortner Ave. was reported at 2:42 a.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Andre Gougis. A knockdown was declared at 3:07 a.m.
The fire destroyed two classrooms and an adjoining bungalow, the Fire Department reported.
One firefighter suffered minor burns to a hand while another had minor burns to a cheek, firefighters told a camera crew at the scene.
An investigation was under way to determine what sparked the fire.
