2 RI firefighters, student injured in blaze

The firefighters suffered minor injuries; the student was trapped and rescued by firefighters

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Brown University student and two firefighters have been injured in an early morning blaze in Providence.

Fire officials say the fire on Angell Street was reported at about 7 a.m. Thursday.

The student was trapped by the flames and was rescued by firefighters, then taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation injuries.

The firefighters suffered minor injuries.

No names were released.

Assistant Chief Scott Mello says the fire was so intense that it melted siding on a neighboring building. The cause remains under investigation.
