3 firefighters injured in floor collapse

A caved in first-floor allowed furniture to fall on firefighters below in basement

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Three firefighters were injured Friday morning after a floor collapsed while they were fighting a house fire.

Firefighters had discovered that the fire started in the basement. While some were battling the blaze, a firefighter walking on the first floor fell through the floor, causing a cave-in that sent furniture falling into the basement, according to YNN.

Two firefighters were struck by the furniture and all three were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputy Chief Martin McMillan told YNN “This fire had a very big head start and burned some large structural members and then when you’re walking along and surprise it’s a cave in basically, and we are just very, very fortunate.”

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, although the home suffered extensive damage.
