NEW YORK — An early morning fire in a Queens apartment building injured six tenants and the building’s super, who suffered severe burns, neighbors and an official said.
Five firefighters also suffered minor injuries battling the blaze, which broke out in the basement of a building on 89th Ave. in Jamaica shortly after 5 a.m., a Fire Department official said.
The super, who was in critical condition at a Manhattan hospital, lived in the basement with his family, tenants said. “He got burned really, really bad,” said one tenant, who would only give his first name, Ricardo. “I’ve never seen skin peel like that before.”
