OCONOMOWOC, Wis. — A Sunday apartment fire has left eight Oconomoc firefighters injured and at least one civilian dead. Firefighter injuries included burns, smoke inhalation and heat stress.
WBAY reports that police downgraded the number of civilian dead from two to one. The outlet also reports that only one firefighter sustained serious injuries.
The Associated Press reports that the fire broke out in the afternoon and that firefighters remained on scene into the evening to protect older exposures in danger of collapse.
About 150 firefighters were on scene, according to NBC26. Temperatures were in the mid 90s.
