JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Nine firefighters were injured while battling a three-alarm blaze Wednesday morning.

Four of the nine firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and several others sustained knee, shoulder and neck injuries, reported NJ.com. One fire captain suffered burns to his neck.

Officials said four of them will be discharged by noon, whereas the remaining five will continue to be treated and evaluated.

During the blaze, one firefighter was trapped on the second floor and a ladder was raised to rescue him; he was not injured.

“All of a sudden the alarms went off and I got out of the building and there was a river of water from the firefighters,” building superintendent Alex Buda said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
