Backdraft knocks 3 Colo. firefighters off their feet

Firefighters went to attic upon arrival to search for fire, which started in chimney, came face to face with explosion

AURORA, Colo. — A backdraft during a two-alarm house fire blew three firefighters backward Thursday in Aurora, Colo.

Firefighters went to the attic upon arrival to search for the fire and came face to face with an explosion, according to The Denver Channel.

“It was most likely a backdraft… that knocked the firefighters off their feet,” said Allen Robnett, a spokesman for the Aurora Fire Department.

The explosion lifted the roof on one side of the house and blew off the garage door. The fire reportedly began in the chimney, possibly due to a faulty flue.

The firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The two people inside the home when the fire started escaped without injury.
