KWUN TONG, China — Fifty-four people were rescued by firefighters after being trapped in a 13-storey factory building in Kwun Tong when a ground-floor garage was engulfed in flames yesterday.
Three women suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at United Christian Hospital. The blaze broke out in the ground-floor garage of the Fu Hop Factory Building in Wai Yip Street at about 1.30pm.
Twenty-nine fire engines and six ambulances were called in and about 150 firefighters were deployed.
The fire was graded three on a scale from one to five. Firemen had doused the flames by about 3.30pm. The Fire Services Department said an initial investigation found nothing suspicious.
