OILDALE, Calif. — A firefighter was hurt when a refrigerator fell on him at a California house fire Saturday morning.
Kern County Firefighter Devin Lawrence sustained only minor injuries in the incident in the kitchen of the vacant property, according to ABC23.
It happened when his hose somehow pulled the refrigerator onto him.
“When it hit me, I just saw a little bit of stars and it was kind of dark,” he told ABC23.
Other firefighters came to his rescue, treating him on the scene. Firefighter Lawrence suffered bruising and a sore shoulder, but quickly rejoined fire attack operations.
“The way that we work with each other, we trust each other with our lives,” Captain Butch Agosta said.
“The minute we get the call, the minute we go in. So you’re just extremely thankful, but you know what, the training is needed, and it worked, and that’s why we did what we did.”
“It’s a brotherhood out there,” Lawrence said, thanking his crew for his rescue. “We’re always there looking out for one another and taking care of one another.”
