BUTLER, N.J. — A borough firefighter was seriously injured Monday night when he fell off a roof while battling a fire and broke his pelvis, police said.
At about 6 p.m., a police officer on patrol reported seeing smoke coming from a residence on Boonton Avenue so both police and the fire department responded to the scene, Butler Police Lt. Mike Moeller said.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a cigarette is believed to have accidentally sparked the blaze on the outside deck of the multi-family home, Moeller said.
