Fire captain injured by wall collapse at NY fire

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo fire captain suffered a back injury when he was struck by collapsing drywall while fighting a garage fire that spread to a nearby home and caused a total of $130,000 damage late Monday night.

Firefighters responded to a 10:39 p.m. call of a garage fire at 33 Rickert Ave., one block west of Fillmore Avenue, north of East Ferry Street.

The fire spread to the occupied home at 1598 Fillmore, causing an estimated $125,000 damage. Fire officials also listed $5,000 damage to the garage on Rickert.

The cause of the garage fire remains under investigation.
