BOONE COUNTY, W. Va. — A W. Va. firefighter is in a critical condition after the tanker he was driving flipped and rolled over several times.
“This is a very serious situation and I would ask that everyone keep this firefighter in their thoughts and prayers,” Whitesville Asst. Fire Chief David Hodges told MetroNews.
Firefighter David “Moose” Massey, 54, was driving a 2,200-gallon water tanker when it flipped and overturned, according to WSAZ. He was responding to an area without hydrants.
A 35-year veteran of the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department, Firefighter Massey was responding to a house fire when the incident occurred.
A news release says that he had over-corrected a turn and caused the tanker to roll over several times.
