CHESANING, Mich. — A firefighter from the Chesaning-Brady Fire Department remains hospitalized in Detroit after suffering injuries fighting a field fire Saturday, April 18, according to Chesaning-Brady Fire Chief Scott Fall.

The firefighter, whom Fall is not naming, suffered a broken leg when a rotten tree fell on him and another firefighter while they were assisting with an afternoon call on Sharon in St. Charles Township, Fall said. The firefighter first was airlifted to Covenant HealthCare Hospital and then to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Fall said. The other firefighter was treated and released at a Saginaw hospital.

Fall said the firefighter who suffered the broken leg was in surgery most of Sunday. He said the belief is that he will not have to have his leg amputated.
