SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A firefighter suffered second-degree burns to his hands while battling a garage fire in Hesperia this morning.
Sixteen San Bernardino County firefighters came to the home in the 17900 block of Chestnut Street at 2:52 a.m. and found a garage engulfed in flames and fire spreading to the home.
The residents evacuated safely, but said their labrador retriever was still inside.
Firefighters went inside, found the dog in a back bedroom and brought him outside, fire officials said.
The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes. Radiant heat from the blaze penetrated through the gloves of a firefighter, causing burns.
Paramedics took him to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment.
