Firefighter responding to Hurricane Irma loses home to fire
Smoke was coming from the home, but firefighters couldn’t respond until five hours later due to suspended service during the storm

LARGO, Fla. — A firefighter who was responding to Hurricane Irma lost his home in a fire.
FOX13 reported that the fire occurred while Mike Jones was helping with Irma aid, and his family lost everything.
Neighbors said they saw smoke coming out of the house around 10 p.m., but firefighters could not respond until 3 a.m. due to suspended service during the storm.
When they arrived, firefighters “aggressively searched the structure for victims,” not knowing the status of Jones’ wife and three children, according to the GoFundMe page created to support the family.
After they confirmed there were no injuries, the firefighters worked to protect the neighbors’ homes and contain the fire. Over $36,000 for Jones' family has been raised in two days.
