TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that spread through a munitions bunker at a weapon manufacturer’s plant in Titusville early this morning. No injuries were reported in the fire at Knight’s Armament that was reported around 8 a.m. Billowing smoke was seen from the north end of Titusville and prompted several fire departments from surrounding jurisdictions, including Brevard County Fire Rescue and Kennedy Space Center Fire Department.
“At this time, the cause of the fire is being reported as unknown, but under investigation,” said Don Walker, a spokesman for Brevard County Fire Rescue. “The fire is out, but smoldering. There is no danger to the public.”
Knight’s Armament Company is a weapons manufacturer for the U.S. military and its property is ringed by fences and a guard tower. Munitions stored inside the bunker were involved in the fire, moving authorities to make the decision to let the fire burn itself out, a spokesman for Brevard County Fire Rescue reported.
