STANTONBY-DALE, England — Firefighters are hoping heavy rain forecast over the coming days will finally help put out a blaze that has been burning for almost three weeks. Crews were first called to the huge fire involving 8,000 tonnes of wood at a recycling plant in Lows Lane, Stantonby-Dale, on September 15.
The operation was scaled back several days later when firefighters decided it would be better to allow the blaze to burn out.
Today, crews will spread out the remaining pile of recycled wood pulp in an effort to speed up the burning process.
It is hoped rain will play a part as well.
