SAN JOSE, Calif.— San Jose firefighters needed about one hour to get control of a blaze that broke out in a San Jose home Wednesday morning.
The fire was reported at 10:34 a.m. in a single-story home in the 1700 block of Coralee Drive, off Camden Avenue, according to San Jose fire Capt. Chuck Rangel. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found flames shooting out the front door and left side of the house, Rangel said.
One firefighter who went into the backyard to turn off the utilities found a small, scared dog named Sunday and pulled it to safety. The fire caused a power line to come down in the backyard, Rangel said.
The flames threatened a neighboring home but firefighters limited the damage to trees, shrubs and the eaves of the roof, Rangel said.
The fire caused damage to about 40 percent of the house, according to Rangel.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents find temporary housing.
