Good Samaritan attends lunch with firefighters after act of heroism

Firefighters called her a hero after rescuing an elderly man from a house fire

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A South Florida woman was invited to a special lunch after firefighters call her a hero for rescuing an elderly man from a fire.

Stephanie Carpenter took a seat at the table with the firefighters of the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department. On the menu: Meatball sandwich with french fries. On Nov. 8, Carpenter was on her way to work when she saw a raging fire on Southwest 11th Street and 3rd Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.

Carpenter immediately asked how she could help and ended up helping a group of people pull a man in his 70’s out of his house through a back window. “A lot of folks will stop and watch but for someone to step up and actually do something to help someone else is commendable,” said Fort Lauderdale Fire Department Chief Bob Bacic. “So the firefighters that were at the scene when they heard the story unraveling they felt compelled to at least invite her to lunch to thank her for a job well done.”
