SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A South Bend firefighter received ankle injuries Thursday night when he fell through a floor while fighting a fire in the 300 block of North Studebaker Street.
A Facebook post identified the firefighter as Tony Marvel. A post said Marvel sustained ankle injuries as he fell between four to six feet through the second floor stairs through to the basement stairs. Several firefighters rescued Marvel, according to the fire reports, and Marvel was taken for treatment at a local hospital.
Firefighters were sent to the Studebaker home about 9:54 p.m. Thursday and found a fire in the kitchen area of the home. The fire had spread to the upper floor and to the basement.
No one was home at the time of the fire, officials said. Damage was listed at approximately $25,000.
