Ind. firefighter shot while pursuing suspects

The firefighter chased down robbery suspects in his car and on foot before they were arrested

HOBART, Ind. — An Ind. firefighter was shot as he pursued four fleeing home invasion suspects on Aug. 8.

The unnamed Hammond city firefighter followed a car full of men who had allegedly broke into his 52-year-old neighbor’s home and beat and robbed her at gunpoint, according to the Times Munster.

While on the chase, the firefighter kept in touch with police dispatchers.

After the suspects crashed their car, the firefighter went after them on foot. The suspects then shot at the firefighter and hurt his hand.

The firefighter is credited with helping to facilitate the arrest of three of the suspects. The fourth suspect shot and killed himself at the scene.
