TWISP, Wash. — A man whose house was saved by firefighters from an advancing wildfire near Twisp Wednesday night has taken to thanking him the only way he knew how: With a note and some goodies.

John Cochran has sign outside his front drive simply stating “Thank you” to firefighters, EMS and police officers. Nearby sat a table full of bottled water, Gatorade, doughnuts and granola bars.

Cochran had left his home Wednesday night when officials called for mandatory evacuations. “We didn’t know what we could come back to, as the fire was coming right over the hill,” Cochran said.
