CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters were busy trying to put out flames at a 3-alarm warehouse fire in north Charlotte early Wednesday morning.
Fire crews were called to the Ryder truck service center warehouse on West Craighead Road around 3 a.m. and saw heavy smoke and huge flames shooting into the air from the engulfed building. The fire was so big that the smoke could be smelled from the Channel 9 studios parking lot, which is two and half miles away.
The building, which was a Ryder maintenance shop, likely had trucks inside when the fire broke out. It took more than 60 firefighters nearly 85 minutes to get the fire under control, but not before the building was destroyed.
