LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Las Cruces Fire Department battled an apartment fire early Saturday morning at the Sierra Verde apartments on the 2600 block of E. Idaho Ave., according to a news release.
Arriving crews discovered a first-floor apartment on fire. The occupants had evacuated, but said their dog was still inside. The fire crews quickly controlled the fire and were also able to rescue the dog.
The dog was given medical attention on scene, using special animal oxygen masks recently acquired by the fire department.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
