ST. LOUIS — A 3-year-old girl was rescued by St. Louis firefighters from a 2-story house fire in the 5700 block of Theodore Avenue today.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 12:05 p.m. and rescued the little girl from the second floor of the brick structure where there was heavy smoke. Two adults with injuries from the fire and five children managed to make it out of the fire before firefighters arrived on the scene, according to St. Louis Fire Capt. Dan Sutter. The children and adults were transported to St. Louis area hospitals. They were listed in stable condition.

The cause of the fire had not been determined before firefighters left the scene. A fire department investigative unit was on the scene investigating. Sutter said it appeared that the home did not have any smoke alarms.

“We know having working smoking alarms in your home will double your chances of survival,” he said.
