PENNSVILLE, N.J. — A New Jersey firefighter’s house was destroyed after a pickup truck slammed into his house and burst into flames.
NBCPhiladelphia.com reported the driver of the truck collided with another vehicle, lost control and crashed into the home around 4:30 a.m.
The firefighter and his wife were asleep when the crash occurred, but were awakened and rushed into the living room to find the pickup truck on fire. Authorities said the driver was attempting to put out the fire with a garden hose.
Everyone was able to escape the home safely, including the firefighter’s pets.
The fire continued to burn for several hours after the crash. The firefighter said the truck probably hit a gas line, igniting the blaze.
The driver was given a sobriety test that came up negative. Police said he will likely face multiple vehicle charges.
