Firefighters battled to keep a wildfire from creeping up on a storage shed containing explosives in Saratoga Springs Tuesday night.

The slow moving fire, which had burned two to four acres by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, came within a mile of the storage shed, which is used by explosives manufacturer Dyno-Novel to store explosives.

The blaze began about six miles away from the main warehouse of Dyno-Novel.

Lt. Yvette Rice of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said firemen did not expect the fire to get close enough to threaten the shed or the main warehouse.

Rice said the blaze coated the area in thick, dark smoke and KSL News reported 30 foot flames.

The fire was contained and under control Tuesday night, but Rice said she expected it will take crews several days before they are able to entirely extinguish the flames.

Firemen from Utah County, Cedar Fork, Saratoga Springs, and Eagle Mountain were dispatched to the scene. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
