INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. —Fire crews worked more than three hours to battle a two alarm fire on the city’s east side Thursday evening.
Crews with the Indianapolis Fire Department were dispatched to the vacant building in the 900 block of North Sherman Drive just before 7 p.m.
The initial attack was offensive, but because of the volume and size of the building, crews had to switch to a defensive attack, officials said.
After three hours, crews were able to safely bring the fire under control without any injuries to civilians or firefighters on the scene, officials said.
IFD said the building used to be the site of Continental Metal Products, and neighbors told IFD that the building has been unoccupied for 10 years.
“Firefighters getting tanks changed. Rehab and recovery. Safety-number one priority- Risk little to save little,” IFD tweeted during the fire.
