VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — Authorities say a growing wildfire at the southern end of Vandenberg Air Force Base in California is threatening six buildings.
Base emergency officials said Thursday the fire erupted around 1 p.m. near Space Launch Complex-3 as emergency response teams were inspecting the base in Santa Barbara County.
It has grown to 250 acres, or less than half a square mile.
Portions of the base have been evacuated. A beach and a highway have been closed to give firefighters better access.
