SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover has put Fire Chief Craig Mulford on administrative leave, with pay, following the department head’s indictment and arrest for allegedly covering up possible misconduct at Fire Station 8.
Glover said Deputy Chief Tom Self would be acting fire chief. Self was on vacation, but would return to duty next week. Glover also said Self was scheduled to retire in August.
The mayor, who appointed Mulford to the top fire post three years ago next week, said he was also calling for an internal investigation to determine if the chief had violated policies. Glover said he was following the same pattern of review and investigation that Mulford used last year when looking into allegations of misconduct at Station 8. That led to the termination of five firefighters for their alleged roles in cruelty against a mentally challenged man.
