RENO, Nev. — An assistant chief died Thursday after suffering a fatal heart attack while on duty.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reported that Donovan Garcia Jr., 52, with the Hungry Valley Volunteer Fire Department, was participating in a wildland fire training when he collapsed. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
He had just been promoted to assistant chief in February.
A viewing is set from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at O’Brien-Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home, 600 W. Second St., in Reno, Nev. Services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hungry Valley Gymnasium, 9070 Eagle Canyon Drive.
