SPOTSWOOD, N.J. — A veteran firefighter collapsed and died Thursday night hours after responding to a call of a gas leak.
NJ.com reported that volunteer firefighter Joseph Bove, 53, with the Spotswood Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, collapsed at home after responding to the call. Firefighter Bove served as Spotswood’s fire chief from 1994 to 1995. In 1997, he served as president of the Spotswood Enterprise Hook & Ladder Company.
EMTs took Bove to a hospital, where he later died, Fire Chief William Andren told NJ.com reporters.
