NJ fire chief suffers heart attack at working fire

Chief Larry Gilman remains in intensive care; a second injured firefighter was treated and released

MANTOLOKING, N.J. — Mantoloking Fire Chief Larry Gilman collapsed during a working structure fire Saturday night.

Firefighters on scene initiated CPR and revived Chief Gilman. He was transported to a hospital where he remained in the intensive care unit Sunday morning, NJ.com reported.

A second firefighter was also injured; the nature of his injuries were not disclosed. He was treated and released.

The fire occurred at a vacant seasonal house. First arriving units found heavy smoke and flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
