WESTBROOK, Texas — A Westbrook man was charged Thursday with two felonies and three misdemeanors in connection with the stabbing of the volunteer fire chief of the Mitchell County town.
The chief, Brandon Hale, was stabbed multiple times at about midnight Tuesday while assisting a sheriff’s deputy at the scene of a disturbance. Hale was flown to a Lubbock hospital for treatment.
Hale’s condition was improving Thursday, but surgeons were unable to save his left eye, said Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs.
The suspect, Stony Ray Wilson, 49, was arrested early Wednesday morning. Wilson was arraigned Thursday by Justice of the Peace Rick Grissam, who set bond on each charge:
Attempted capital murder of a public servant, a first-degree felony, $1 million.
Aggravated assault, a first-degree felony, $750,000.
Terroristic threat of domestic violence, a Class A misdemeanor, $7,000.
Deadly conduct, a Class A misdemeanor, $3,000.
Evading arrest, a Class B misdemeanor, $2,500.
