6 Pa. firefighters suspended for life

The firefighters claim they were suspended because they held an unapproved fundraiser

BLAINE HILL, Pa. — Tensions between volunteer firefighters and its department trustees have resulted in life suspensions of six members.

The six firefighters, including the chief from Blaine Hill Volunteer Fire Co., say bickering with the trustees stems from a fundraiser, according to TribLive.

Firefighters claim the trustees refused to help finance the event, so they went to a local business owner who agreed to help.

Chief Brian Mason said that the trustees then charged him with not getting permission to host the event. Chief Mason said the fair itself was approved at a meeting, just not the funding from the trustees.

In light of the suspensions, the company’s vice president and secretary also resigned.

Chief Mason said the company has about 30 active firefighters in its ranks, with about half of them being extremely active with department functions. He told TribLive the six suspended members were part of that active contingent.
