WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — The Whitfield County Fire Department has proposed bagging a firefighter who used a fire hydrant while off duty. According to a release from the department, the use of the fire hydrant was unauthorized, and the firefighter was a veteran.

“Trust and good judgement are crucial aspects of a firefighter’s role and both have been severely compromised,” Chief Edward O’Brien said in a statement.

The news release does not name the actual firefighter. But it says the department received a tip about the employee using a fire hydrant. It does not say specifically what the firefighter did with the hydrant, just that the employee was off duty.

O’Brien has proposed firing the firefighter. The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners and County Administrator support this decision, according to the release.

“The department will not tolerate this conduct from a Fire Department employee,” the release reads, “especially an experienced one.”
