VENTURA, Calif. — A Ventura city firefighter was in serious condition Sunday at a hospital after suffering a medical emergency while en route to a medical emergency call.

When the firefighter experienced the medical emergency about 9:30 a.m., his co-workers were able to pull their rig over and treat him before taking him to the hospital, said Battalion Chief Douglas Miser of the Ventura Fire Department.

The firefighter’s name was not released nor were details about the nature of his emergency.

“We’re extremely concerned, but we’ve had some excellent peer support from our local fire agencies, as well as our partner agencies,” Miser said. “We’re fortunate that we have two great hospitals in this city.”

Another engine and ambulance was re-directed to the original medical emergency, he said.
