SACRAMENTO, Calif. — When tragedies strike, first responders jump into action. But, incidents like the mass murder in Modesto can take a toll on officers, medics and firefighters.
“Officers cry too,” Senior Law Enforcement Chaplain Mindi Russell said. “Behind the badge, beats a heart.”
While emergency responders deal with life and death on a daily basis, some tragedies hit them harder than others. After helping those in need, they then turn to someone for help. “We’re here to let them tell their story,” Russell explained. “We have critical incident stress debriefing. We have debriefings one-on-one.”
