CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A man who stole an ambulance tells police he used it to escape after he was held captive in a dog cage for days and was assaulted, according to reports.
WCPO Channel 9 reports the home where the 22-year-old victim says he was held was across the street from a fire station. On Saturday, the man managed to escape the home and went to the fire station, forced his way inside and then took an ambulance. He drove an ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Christopher Edwards, 38, who reportedly lives in the home, was arraigned Monday on charges of felonious assault and kidnapping, the Dayton Daily News reports. Police say the victim told officers that other people helped Edwards. No other arrests have been made.
Police tell the Daily News that the victim told officers investigating the stolen ambulance that he used the vehicle to escape the home, where he said he was kept in a dog cage. He tells authorities he was tortured over several days.
WEWS Channel 5 reports it’s unclear how the man ended up trapped in the home and the motive is unknown. It’s also unknown how the victim managed to escape. He is recovering in the hospital but has been unable to speak with investigators.
