ATHENS, Texas — An East Texas firefighter has been released from the hospital after being injured Tuesday night while responding to a fire. The firefighter, a volunteer for Log Cabin Volunteer Fire Department, was directing traffic around the scene when he was struck, according to officials.
Caney City VFD Chief of Administration David Ramsey said crews were called about 6:30 p.m. to a home on County Road 3925, off of Highway 175, just north of Athens. Caney City and Log Cabin were two of the five departments that responded to the fire.
An SUV struck the man while he was standing in the turning lane of Highway 175 and guiding a fire engine out of the road, according to Cory Abbe, Log Cabin VFD Fire Department chief.
