TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — A veteran firefighter from Alexander County was killed in a two-vehicle head-on crash Tuesday, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Killed in the wreck was William Shook, 42, a lieutenant with the Taylorsville Fire Department. Shook had been a firefighter in Alexander County for two decades, according to fire officials.
The wreck was reported about 3 p.m. on N.C. 90, about 5 miles west of Taylorsville.
Troopers say Shook was driving a pickup truck that drifted across the center line and struck a dump truck. The dump truck driver was not seriously hurt.
The Highway Patrol says it is investigating why Shook’s vehicle crossed the center line.
