SUNBURY, Pa. — The Sunbury Fire Department will receive $200,000 from the city to purchase much-needed equipment.

City officials voted to give the department $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding to buy air packs for firefighters.

Mayor Josh Broisous said he was happy to provide the funding to the department.

“This is the least we could do for them,” he said. “They are out there every day making sure our residents and surrounding communities are safe.”

Council member Jim Eister agreed.

“We are happy to be able to provide them some money to get what they need,” he said.

Sunbury Fire Chief Jay Long said the department needed to replace some of the air packs, and they cost about $12,000 each.

He said he and the department were grateful to city leaders for the funding.

“This will help us out,” he said.

Brosious said anytime the city can help the department, it will.

“We want to make sure our first responders are out there with the best equipment possible,” he said.
